Mackie Onyx Blackjack Mackie's Onyx mic pres have garnered a good reputation among recordists, but it's not everybody that needs or wants to have a full-blown mixer in their recording setup, not to mention any affordability issues. So this is my question: Why does Sonor distort my audio while Tracktion doesn't? Recording through the mixer with Tracktion works great.

This caused me to install Tracktion, the software that comes with the mixer, just to see if it made a difference, and sure enough, it did. I tried increasing the buffer size to as high as it would go, and while this made the problem less severe, i could still hear the distortion (if you need to hear what the distortion sounds like I can upload an mp3). When I recorded this, it was distorted and sounded awful. I tried to record one mono track of guitar using the 'Hi-z' function on channel one. (At least not yet.read on. I'm thinking for the quick audio and a few VSTi's dance/club type stuff that I'm doing I wouldn't notice a difference in the USB speed so I'm not sure if this even matters.

The Scarlett is USB 2.0 but you need to install a driver for it to work.

right now i'm just thinking is it worth spending the money on the VTB1 or will the difference not justify the cost? I know that's all relative and it's is cheap in the grand scheme of gear.OK, so I got this Mackie mixer and once I got the drivers set up and what not, I tried to record some music. Mackie Onyx Blackjack This is sort of a 2-sided review.because in many ways this is a great product, but in one very large way it isnt. Mackie is USB 1.1 but does not need a driver to work on a mac. This means you cannot connect multiple Onyx-i devices to the same computer for.

PC Driver v1.9 and Mac OS Core Audio for Onyx-i mixers do not support device aggregation. but that's a separate issue i can think about later. If you need to quickly see which driver you need to install on your system for your mixer or interface, you can cross reference it with your operating system using this chart. Of course i could always keep the money to save towards a better preamp, I was thinking the Art Pro MPA II, i did own one once and it's 2 channel preamp and pretty nice. It hogs one processor and the audio continuously drops out. My real question is, is there any point in buying the VTB1. Anyway, i was planning on also buying a Studio Projects VTB1 Preamp. I've heard it's a good interface and the preamps are pretty good inside it. I have just ordered the Focusrite scarlett 2i2 as i need a new interface for some home recording.
